Blowing Sankha marks the beginning of any good work. It is believed that the sound of Sankha is the purest form of sound that brings in freshness and new hope.
When the Sankha is blown with controlled breath, the basic sound of “Om” is produced from it.
Sankha is the shell of the sea snail species Turbinella Hyrum in the family Turbinellidae. The overall shape of the main body of the shell is oblong or conical. In the oblong form, it has a protuberance in the middle but tapers at each end.
How to blow Sankha?
When you blow the Sankha, you should stand and raise your neck upwards and fully concentrate on the task at hand. When blowing shankha, the eyes should be closed. Take a deep breath and start to blow with increasing intensity. One should keep in mind that blowing of Sankha should be completed in one single breath.
Blow from the diaphragm, not from higher up in the chest or throat like when you speak.
