Description

Damphu – Traditional Tamang Musical Instrument

Damphu, an ancient percussion musical instrument, is a traditional instrument of the Tamang community. The name is actually derived from Nepals National Bird Danphe, in English Lohpophorus. It is played in all auspicious occasions like New Year, Wedding, Festivals, etc.

Each Damphu at Swodeshi is a finely crafted handmade product, constructed from natural wood and tightly stretched animal skin, decorated with traditional Tamang motifs. Played with the fingers or palm, it produces rhythmic beats that accompany the Tamang’s famous “Tamang Selo” songs — filled with joy, emotion, and ancestral wisdom.

Whether you are a collector of traditional instruments, a musician, or simply someone who cherishes indigenous cultures, the Damphu is a beautiful addition to your cultural collection.
